Films watched in 2019

A clichéd, saturatingly-American film, sickly sweet in parts but just about held together with the performance of Jamie Lee Curtis.

A really enjoyably wholesome alternative Christmas film. Wonderfully animated with great characters and dialog. A well-trodden plot but a heart warming one.

Long. Enigmatic. Enjoyable. The length made it a little hard to follow in slower parts. Would like to watch again to make my mind up.

Comforting, familiar and visually impressive as always. Really enjoyed the nature and RV scenes but overall the story was lacking something that the previous instalments had. It's almost a cookie cutter plot for the franchise now.

I really wanted to like this, and for parts of it its swagger definitely appealed. At the end of the day, it was a brooding fast cars / guns / bad guys flick, with a bit of cool added to it. I enjoy Ansel Elgort and thought he played his role well, but his character was a Hollywood cliche. The driving was entertaining but I couldn't figure out the relationship between Baby and Janet at all. Just seemed artificially created to help the storyline. With that said, it was an enjoyable watch, if for nothing more than Baby being a vaguely relatable character.

An enjoyable if slightly vacuous thriller. Kendrick and Lively's relationship was fun to watch.

Just a really good, fun comedy. Wonderful setting and great chemistry between the leads.

More of the same, but I think I actually enjoyed this a little more than the first. John Wick felt a bit more human, and the story a bit less one-dimensional. There's a lot to be said about the superhero/can't die trope, and the glorifying of violence/crime, but at the end of the day it's a fun, possibly even stylish film.

Eery and very creepy in multiple ways. A smart build up to an unsettling reveal was hampered with uncomfortably unsubtle peudaphilia references. A frankly ludicrus final scene took away most of any remaining sheen.

Balls-out action. Murder; lots of murder. Gratuitous amounts. But Keanu is good; the role suits him. As predictable as these sort of films tend to be; nevertheless an enjoyable weekend flick.

An eery film with some great twists and turns. A bit wooden at times, but enough to keep you engaged.

I didn’t get this. Not my cup of tea. Somehow funny without making you laugh.
