Christmas with the Kranks, 2004 - ★★½

Christmas with the Kranks, 2004 - ★★½

A clichéd, saturatingly-American film, sickly sweet in parts but just about held together with the performance of Jamie Lee Curtis.

Klaus, 2019 - ★★★★

Klaus, 2019 - ★★★★

A really enjoyably wholesome alternative Christmas film. Wonderfully animated with great characters and dialog. A well-trodden plot but a heart warming one.

The Irishman, 2019 - ★★★★

The Irishman, 2019 - ★★★★

Long. Enigmatic. Enjoyable. The length made it a little hard to follow in slower parts. Would like to watch again to make my mind up.

Level 16, 2018 - ★★★½

Level 16, 2018 - ★★★½

Harrowing and engaging, if a little far-fetched. A disturbing premise that progressed at a fairly slow pace. Decent finish.

Fractured, 2019 - ★★★

Fractured, 2019 - ★★★

An eery and unsettling film - if just for the dystopian view of private healthcare! Laboured in parts and a pretty well-trodden plot, but still delivered some good suspense.

Non-Stop, 2014 - ★★★

Non-Stop, 2014 - ★★★

A not bad action thriller set predominantly on a plane. Pretty typically plays out, but helped by some decent performances and a constant whodunnit theme. Leaves you guessing till the end.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, 2019 - ★★★★

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, 2019 - ★★★★

A satisfying and apt end to Breaking Bad. Not a profound addition, but well done and thoroughly well presented.

The Game Changers, 2018 - ★★★★

The Game Changers, 2018 - ★★★★

Well paced, informative and heart-warming. Should be a real eye-opener to many people.

In the Tall Grass, 2019 - ★★★

In the Tall Grass, 2019 - ★★★

Eery and gripping, but also very odd psychological, supernatural horror. A decent story and finish but unanswered questions aplenty.

Solis, 2018 - ★★★

Solis, 2018 - ★★★

A well shot and charismatic performance with an underwhelming if realistic climax.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post, 2018 - ★★★½

The Miseducation of Cameron Post, 2018 - ★★★½

Enjoyable and thought provoking. A clichéd lead role in parts, but Moretz is powerful nonetheless. A decent cast.

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, 2019 - ★★★★½

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, 2019 - ★★★★½

This film oozed style and managed to make me feel endless nostalgia for a decade I wasn't alive in. No real plot to speak of, but terrific shots, acting and just a whole lot of fun. An explosive finale.

Toy Story 4, 2019 - ★★★

Toy Story 4, 2019 - ★★★

Comforting, familiar and visually impressive as always. Really enjoyed the nature and RV scenes but overall the story was lacking something that the previous instalments had. It's almost a cookie cutter plot for the franchise now.

Baby Driver, 2017 - ★★★½

Baby Driver, 2017 - ★★★½

I really wanted to like this, and for parts of it its swagger definitely appealed. At the end of the day, it was a brooding fast cars / guns / bad guys flick, with a bit of cool added to it. I enjoy Ansel Elgort and thought he played his role well, but his character was a Hollywood cliche. The driving was entertaining but I couldn't figure out the relationship between Baby and Janet at all. Just seemed artificially created to help the storyline. With that said, it was an enjoyable watch, if for nothing more than Baby being a vaguely relatable character.

A Simple Favor, 2018 - ★★★½

A Simple Favor, 2018 - ★★★½

An enjoyable if slightly vacuous thriller. Kendrick and Lively's relationship was fun to watch.

Murder Mystery, 2019 - ★★★½

Murder Mystery, 2019 - ★★★½

Just a really good, fun comedy. Wonderful setting and great chemistry between the leads.

John Wick: Chapter 2, 2017 - ★★★½

John Wick: Chapter 2, 2017 - ★★★½

More of the same, but I think I actually enjoyed this a little more than the first. John Wick felt a bit more human, and the story a bit less one-dimensional. There's a lot to be said about the superhero/can't die trope, and the glorifying of violence/crime, but at the end of the day it's a fun, possibly even stylish film.

The Perfection, 2018 - ★★★

The Perfection, 2018 - ★★★

Eery and very creepy in multiple ways. A smart build up to an unsettling reveal was hampered with uncomfortably unsubtle peudaphilia references. A frankly ludicrus final scene took away most of any remaining sheen.

John Wick, 2014 - ★★★

John Wick, 2014 - ★★★

Balls-out action. Murder; lots of murder. Gratuitous amounts. But Keanu is good; the role suits him. As predictable as these sort of films tend to be; nevertheless an enjoyable weekend flick.

When Harry Met Sally…, 1989 - ★★★

When Harry Met Sally…, 1989 - ★★★

Fun, with smart dialogue and great chemistry. Ultimately lacking in any real moral substance. A nice nostalgic view of New York.

The Silence, 2019 - ★★★½

The Silence, 2019 - ★★★½

A well trodden disaster/apocalyptic storyline, but one that didn't disappoint. Not overly drawn out, with a steady pace.

Adrift, 2018 - ★★★½

Adrift, 2018 - ★★★½

Enjoyable and tense, with touching interspersed moments of affection. A reveal you could probably see coming, but a powerful film nonetheless.

Triple Frontier, 2019 - ★★★

Triple Frontier, 2019 - ★★★

Superficial and simplistic but an all star cast kept this interesting enough. Greedy, greedy characters.

Us, 2019 - ★★★½

Us, 2019 - ★★★½

A terrifying and gripping horror enthralled and disappointed in equal measure. A great cast was let down by plot holes and weak symbolism.

Red Sparrow, 2018 - ★★★★

Red Sparrow, 2018 - ★★★★

A harrowing and violent thriller with an impressive display from Lawrence. Lots of second guessing and plot flip-flops.

Independence Day: Resurgence, 2016 - ★★★

Independence Day: Resurgence, 2016 - ★★★

About as blockbuster as they come; explosions and weak dialog. Will Smith’s charisma was missed, but Goldblum was good. A fine sequel.

47 Meters Down, 2017 - ★★★½

47 Meters Down, 2017 - ★★★½

Tension and and unease were ever-presents in this predictable yet gripping horror. Claustrophobic and minimal but well done.

The Cured, 2017 - ★★½

The Cured, 2017 - ★★½

A thought provoking but dragged out movie, lacking anything truly memorable. Decent performances but little excitement.

Escape Room, 2017 - ★★★

Escape Room, 2017 - ★★★

An interesting concept, if a little predictable. Gripping and somewhat terrifying. An ending that left you wondering.

Polar, 2019 - ★★★

Polar, 2019 - ★★★

A poor man’s kill bill. Mikkelson and Hudgens were great but Matt Lucas was a poor choice. Clumsy in parts and gore aplenty but enjoyable.

Fyre, 2019 - ★★★★

Fyre, 2019 - ★★★★

Wow. They fucked up. A shocking and insightful look into the failed festival that was Fyre. Uncomfortable and anxiety ridden but a must see

The Super, 2017 - ★★★½

The Super, 2017 - ★★★½

An eery film with some great twists and turns. A bit wooden at times, but enough to keep you engaged.

The Favourite, 2018 - ★★★

The Favourite, 2018 - ★★★

I didn’t get this. Not my cup of tea. Somehow funny without making you laugh.
